Jerry Powers

Jerry Powers is the publisher and co-founder of Ocean Drive magazine and Ocean Drive en Español. Powers has been publishing since 1968 when he first launched The Daily Planet, a hip Miami weekly that circulated from 1968-1974. Throughout his career, Powers has frequently found himself a part of the social, cultural and political changes that have shaped American society over the course of the past 30 years.

Powers has also made his mark in the music business, both as a personal manager to recording artists like LTD and Jeffrey Osborne, and also to producing and promoting concerts for such artists as Elvis Presley, the Moody Blues, Elton John, Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix.

Powers has also put his considerable energy and expertise into the world of fine art. He broke barriers for American artists through summits in such countries as Japan, Spain, the Soviet Union as well as the U.S. Powers was later honored for his accomplishments and for volunteerism at White House ceremonies by presidents Reagan and Bush, and also by Russian presidents Mikhail Gorbachov and Boris Yeltsin.

These days, when it comes to politics, Powers’ concerns are focused solidly on the environment and charitable organizations. He sits on the board of the United Foundation for AIDS as well as the Police Athletic League of Miami Beach. Various associations Powers is involved with include the Make-A-Wish Foundation, American Cancer Association, The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Mothers’ Voices, and The Miami City Ballet amongst others.

Powers’ current career turn with Ocean Drive magazine took place while coordinating an art exhibit in Aventura, FL in 1992, when a friend took him on a guided tour of South Beach. “I saw the magic and the potential and I was hooked,” Powers says. “I never thought I’d do this again, but here I am.”

Ocean Drive captures glamour, fashion and the social scene in an upscale publication that combines South Beach chic with true international style featuring choice gossip, fashion, photography and news from every hot spot in the world, from South Beach to New York to London. As a publication recognized by the national and international media, it is obvious that Ocean Drive’s affluent and style conscious audience can be found throughout the country and in fashion capitals worldwide. It has been said that Ocean Drive magazine is the number one city magazine in the country in terms of ad lineage.

Powers has made another major statement with Ocean Drive magazine with the successful launch of Ocean Drive en Español. Both publications are distributed worldwide through Curtis Circulation Company, a division of Hachette Publishing. Ocean Drive also boasts a separate custom publishing division, with publications in Canada, Australia and Venezuela, as well as Paradise, the Atlantis in-house guide to Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Ocean Drive’s internet site has partnered with on-line giant AOL in addition to launching a line of products including eyewear in the Spring of 2000.

Powers lives in Miami Beach with wife Sandi.
